The Skin Cancer Foundation Research Grants Program\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

The Skin Cancer Foundation has funded more than $2 million in research grants since the program began in 1981. Many early career investigators in the dermatology community have used their grants to launch studies on the prevention, detection or treatment of skin cancer that ultimately led to significant advances for patients and physicians. These grants are an important first step to getting new ideas off the ground.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text css=””]Each year, researchers are invited to submit applications for one-year projects to be conducted in or in conjunction with the dermatology departments of medical or academic institutions in the United States. Our program is open to dermatology residents, fellows and investigators within 10 years of their first academic appointment.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York City<\/p>\n

Title of project: <\/span>\u201cImmunosuppression and Macrophage Interactions in the Development of Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC)\u201d<\/p>\n

SCC exhibits higher rates of local recurrence and metastasis within organ transplant recipients (OTRs). This proposal seeks to understand how macrophages, an immune cell type with unclear roles in SCC initiation, may be affected by immunosuppression regimens, increasing cell-cell interactions with tumor cells to accelerate tumor initiation.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Awardee: Nicholas Collins, PhD” tab_id=”1714058531470-3f63615e-58ec”][vc_column_text css=””]$50,000<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\"\"<\/p>\n

Title of project: <\/span>\u201cNutritional Enhancement of Anti-Melanoma Immunity\u201d<\/p>\n

The aim of this project is to identify specific dietary nutrients that enhance T cells against melanoma, which will be essential to achieving the long-term goal of using accessible nutritional interventions to enhance immunotherapy against metastatic melanoma.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Awardee: Gabriela Andrea Pizzurro, PhD” tab_id=”1714058542453-f1002315-7f41″][vc_column_text css=””]\"\"$25,000<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Title of project: <\/span>\u201cModeling Metastatic Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) for Immunotherapeutic Studies\u201d<\/p>\n

This project will focus on the analysis of metastatic SCC. The researchers will study an aggressive mouse model, derived in their lab.
