Yet it often goes undetected until it\u2019s difficult to treat, disfiguring, or even life-threatening.<\/h4>\n<p>That\u2019s why we launched<a href=\"https:\/\/www.skincancer.org\/early-detection\/the-big-see\/\"><strong> The Big See<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> <\/strong><\/a>campaign \u2013 to show you how easy it is to open your eyes, get to know your skin, check yourself in the mirror and ask: \u201cWhat\u2019s that?\u201d While you\u2019re looking, keep these three words in mind: NEW, CHANGING or UNUSUAL. It could save your life!<\/p>\n<h3>What to look for:<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4499\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skincancer.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/SKC_Website_New_v06.gif\" alt=\"Animated Gif of a growing green spot \" width=\"240\" height=\"240\" \/><br \/>\n<strong>1.<\/strong> Something <strong>new<\/strong> on your skin that just doesn\u2019t look right and makes you say, \u201cWait, what\u2019s that?\u201d Make a note of when you first see it and keep an eye on it. If it doesn\u2019t go away in a few weeks or starts to grow, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skincancer.org\/early-detection\/annual-exams\/\">see a dermatologist<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4500\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skincancer.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/SKC_Website_Changing_v06.gif\" alt=\"Animated gif of a colorful spots changing in shape, size and color\" width=\"240\" height=\"240\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> Any growth on your skin that has increased in size or thickness or has <strong>changed<\/strong> in color, shape or texture could be a warning sign. Is it darker, lighter or have more than one color? Does it bleed, itch, hurt, crust or not heal? Get it checked!<\/p>\n<p><strong>The takeaway:<\/strong> You have a powerful tool to detect skin cancer: your eyes.
