It&#8217;s the most common cancer in America. Every year, millions of people learn the truth about what it means to say, \u201c<em>This is skin cancer.\u201d\u00a0<\/em>We&#8217;re sharing just a few of their stories.<\/p>\n<p>For some people, a skin cancer diagnosis means outpatient surgery and a better approach to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skincancer.org\/skin-cancer-prevention\/sun-protection\/\">prevention<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skincancer.org\/early-detection\/\">detection<\/a>. For others, the disease is far more serious, even life-threatening.<\/p>\n<p>Every survivor has a story. And <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skincancer.org\/about-us\/who-we-are\/\">The Skin Cancer Foundation\u2019s team<\/a> is here to listen. Over the years, countless people have shared, powerfully and poignantly, what it\u2019s like to live with and beyond skin cancer. Then came the \u201cbombshell moment\u201d when he realized that he needed Mohs surgery on his face during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<div style=\"display: flex; justify-content: center; text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1HMOjll5hLA\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Renata identified melanoma on her husband on two separate occasions, and likely saved his life. At the time of her diagnosis, Brittanny, who was then just 27, did not even know what melanoma was. Now, after treatment, Brittanny says that skin cancer has completely changed her life: &#8220;There is a clear, distinct difference in my life before cancer and after cancer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div style=\"display: flex; justify-content: center; text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/b0pnDyEnbV0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">After 10 years of knowing in her heart that something was wrong with the lesion on her cheek, Stacey got it biopsied by a new doctor and received a diagnosis of melanoma. After three traumatic surgeries to remove the melanoma, Stacey has a totally different outlook on life. Her best advice: &#8220;You are your own advocate. Listen to your inner voice, and if you feel something is not right, speak up.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div style=\"display: flex; justify-content: center; text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fCnoC_q42RY?si=MaLUdY7kJ1auM6lX\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">After a 2017 melanoma diagnosis, Candice began her skin cancer journey. In 2019, she received the shock of her life when, in the aftermath of a car accident, doctors discovered that her melanoma had spread to her brain, lungs, spleen and pelvic wall. Skin cancer has given Candice her voice and her passion in life.
